    Hello,

We have kept chickens for just over a year now, 5 ex-batts and 4 we raised from chicks this easter! We also have 3 indian runner ducks (a few cats and a hamster… oh, and 2 teenage daughters!!) I think this site is brilliant! What a good idea! When we were starting out we searched the internet and found some excellent forums, but fab to have something local! (although we live in Leighton Buzzard lol!) Maybe this “Cooped” could spread to Bedfordshire??

We moved to Berkhamsted earlier this year and, a few months ago, decided the time was right to buy some chickens – so 4 hybrids (Roxy, Bianca, Chelsea and Peggy – I am not to blame for the names) arrived and they have feasted happily on the worms etc that our garden has to offer. A few weeks ago at the Malvern Show (already so enamoured with our happy brood) we decided to add to their numbers and brought home 3 more – not hybrids this time. There was a fair bit of pecking and feathers flying for a few days but, touch wood, they seem now to be co-existing happily, although the pecking order is VERY clear.
We are now thinking about getting some ducks and would be interested in other experiences of these being introduced to a garden with established chickens.
On another note, apart from a gun!!!, how do I stop squirrels eating my bird (not chicken) food?
